Site Grows.

.By M. 8. HANDLER United Press Staff Correspondent LONDON, Feb. 7~A groundswell of sentiment to reject the Stamford-

that the decision might be postPoned until September. movement was under foot under Australian leadership to select San Prancisco as the Interim site for the next assembly meeting in September. A decision on the permanent site would be considered then, Initial’ debate in the assembly's permanent site committee yesterday indicated that the assembly will not reach a decision before it closes this session within the next week. The most it is likely fo do" is to select a place for the September assembly meeting. Lists Objections

Col. W. R. Hodgson of Australia, lang a supporter of San Francisco, opened the attack on the StamfordGreenwich site in the permanent headquarters committee meeting last night, He submitted a formal resoldtiph for rejection of the inspection group report recommending StarmfordGreenwich. His objections were: ONE: The Connecticut site was too costly, requiring $20,000,000 to obtain the land, ’ TWO: Interim arrangements in New York City are scattered widely and are unsatisfactory. The Bolivian delegate, Carlos Salamanca, supported Mr. Hodgson with a specific proposal for San Prancisco as temporary home. Mah{mound Riaz of Egypt said Ameri- | can estimates placed the cost of the Connecticut land at $50,000,000.

| Like Profiteers

| “We shouldn't spend so much money like profiteers while most {of the world is starving,” Mr. Riaz | said. Mr. Hodgson pointed out that several delegations already are com- { plaining about the first annual UNO budget of $25,000,000.

to locate the headquarters on the East coast of the United States, objected to a decision until potential costs of land in the po- | tenial sites are available,

Applaud Cushman In Piano Recital

! Roger Cushman, Jordan conservatory piano department head, appeared in his first recital of the season last night in the World War memorial auditorium. Beginning with Bach's Fantasia and fugue in A minor, Mr. Cushman continued with two Scarlatti sonatas and the dramatic B minor sonata of Liszt. With ample facility and aecuracy Mr. Cushman has an incisive rather than an ingratiating touch. He was at his best in moments of the Liszt. The second part of his program included Willson Osborne's Sonatina, Debussy's Poissons d'Or,” Schumann's “Des "Abends” and the brilliant “Islamey” of Balakirev. A good-sized and cordial audience greeted him with hearty applause.

‘Going My Way' Touch.

: ‘Business-minded Hollywood tends to repeat successful formulas, . Thus, in “The Bells of St. Mary's,”

4 | which opened yesterday at the In-| diana, you get some ingredients of, 9:50

“Going My Way.” Bing Crosby again appears in the role of a young priest who helps a

“| parish ‘out of its difficulties. And

{Leo McCarey has added to this picture two other sure-fire elements: The title and the vast appeal of the song it represents, and Ingrid Bergman's fine acting in the role of Sister Benedict, sister superior of the parochial school. There are some novelties, including the first-grade children’s enacting of a Nativity play. Mr. McCarey is reported to have called that delightful interlude one of the most difficult sequences he ever filmed. The children, too young to learn lines or follow Hirections, evidently did the seqence largely ad lib. You've probably never seen anything quite like it in pictures, Yesterday's audience seemed to relish the gentle humor of the dialog and the simplicity of the story, with its not-too-painful heartthrobs.
