silk or nylon basket-weave chutes
MISS HALL is well on her way oh her first product, a blouse, All - she had to do was rip the parachute panels, pin the pattern on the material and start cutting. But there's another story to Miss Hansell's chute. After a close look she counted 48 government stamps bearing the letters “U8 Amy” and a serial number. She used all kinds of soap on the markings, soaked the parachute one night and half of the next day and still the purple letters wouldn't come off. Bo rather than be “branded” by the government she has decided to use the pleces minus ink markings. and dye the others a Sark color so the print won't show.
o » 8 MISS HANSELL didn't stop with just the parachute. She also unraveled the cords of the chute and is now knitting a pair of booties for a gift to a friend. Some of the younger folks are us= ing the cords for shoe strings— they're tough to break. - If the clothing shortage doesn't ease up soon, it's hard telling what | government surplus product the women may reconvert next.
