gion. In 1031, the letter went on, shé went to live with a man whom she subsequently married in 1042. The pension was stopped then. But the woman didn't feel right. She told VA that perhaps she shouldn't have accepted the pension between, 1931 and 1942. That's why she was sending the shoe box. .

Inside VA officials found $1990 in bills and 66 war bonds with a face value of $2150. “They said the total roughly equalled the amount she had collected from the government.

The Presidens vetoed a previous measure which would have returned USES to the states within 100 days. In support of his contention that

of faith” Mr. Halleck introduced into the record an exchange of tele

and former Democrafic Henry P. Schricker of Indiana. The President insisted that USES be transferred, but promised to keep federal control only during the war. Under date of Dec. 22, 1941, Governor Schricker wired the White House -complying with the President’s request and adding: “In this compliance it is my un-

war and that upon cessation of the emergency the employment tservice functions will be returned to the control of the people of Indiana.” “To my mind, in the absence of some specific denial of that request and those conditions, it creates a clear responsibility upon the fed-

services to the states,” Mr. Halleck concluded.
