TOWN IN N. Y. WILL RETURN TO UNION

TOWN LINE, N. Y, Jan. 23 (U. P.) ~The confederate flag, once a symbol of defiance to the Yankees, will wave over this tiny hamlet tomorrow as residents vote to return to the United States. Town Line seceded from the union in 1861 along with the Southern states and never has rejoined the union officially. Last October, residents decided to ‘suspend allegiance to the defunct confederacy and place the village “under the protection of Gov. Thomas E. Dewey of New York” pending a referendum. The voting was scheduled for next July but owing to “an awful clamor” from world wal II veterans to settle the issue immediately, it was decided to ballot immediately.
