MARGH DISCHARGES URGED FOR 2-YR. GI'S
WASHINGTON, Jan. 19 (U. P.) ~~ The chairman of the special senate subcommittee investigating demobilization said today that enlisted men with two years service could be discharged by March, The statement was made by Senator Edwin C. Johnson (D. Col). He said this goal could be accomplished without lowering the army's physical requirement as. suggested by Brig. Gen. Lewis B. Hershey. Hershey, national selective service director, told the committee yesterday that the draft could provide the 50,000 men a month required by the army only if it lowered its physical standards. He also suggested reinducting draftees between the ages of 18 and 26 who were discharged after serving less than a year in training only. $35,000 FIRE HITS PLANT JASPER, Ind. Jan. 19 (U. P).— Loss from a fire which swept the Victoria Mill & Elevator Co. plant was estimated at $35,000 today by John J. Welp, plant manager, Firemen fought three hours yesterday to bring the blaze under control. Cause of the fire was undetermined.
