CARNIVAL STRIPES

Wonderful go-wither, because it mixes so many gay colors in its medley of slim stripes that practically any accessories look well with it. Buttoned from neck fo hem, the’ buttons cealed under a fly front, the skirt buttons shining bright. Smooth,

Twins Supply Film Device
Fred MacMurray in "Pardon My Past’ at Loew's.
Twins and mistaken identity, a theme as old as story-telling are the basis of “Pardon My Past,” which opened at Loew's yesterday. Starring Fred MacMurray—a wise choice, since nobody could 160k exactly like Mr, MacMurray except an identical twin brother, the film adds new angles to the ancient theme, Mistaken identity leads Mr. MacMurray into involuntary negotiations with a big-time gambler, and from that uncomfortable pickle right into a long-standing quarrel in a wealthy family. Each time he tries to get out of the false situation, he gets in deeper until the right twin finally shows up. Interesting Tale With Marguerite Chapman for love-interest, and with Akim Tamiroff as the soft-spoke but grimly menacing gambler, the picture also contains a healthy amount of rough-and-tumble stuff involving a couple of mentally retarded detectives. Sheer fabrication, of course, the story is nevertheless entertaining and well put together. On the same bill is “Shafu,” a comedy whose cast includes the | late Robert Benchley. Watching ) as, Benchley, who was a much bet actor than he'd ever admit, Nar feel a sense of almost personal loss.
