FATE OF U. S. SHIP IN 1942 REVEALED

WASHINGTON, Jan.,9 (U, P.)— The navy disclosed today that the steamship Carolyn, which was sunk in the Atlantic in March of 1942, had been converted to a heavily armed Q-ship and renamed the Atik before she went out on ‘her last voyage. The Atik was only three days out of Norfolk, Va, on a shakedown

had been torpedoed and required assistance, the navy said. This was during the night of March 26. Coast guard vessels and army planes searching the area 300 miles southeast of Norfolk could find no trace of the ship the next day. The entire crew was listed as missing.
