STUDEBAKER CORP. ON 48-HOUR WEEK
SOUTH BEND, Ind, Jan. 4 (U. P.)~H. 8. Vance, chairman of the Studebaker Corp. board, said today that the corporation will operate temporarily on a six-day, 48-hour week. The statement was made following
yesterday's production of 200 new
automobiles at the plant. It was the first full day of Studebaker operation since labor trouble closed a major parts supplier plant several months ago. Vance said that the production figure was “merely a starting rate”

today had ordered elections to determine collective bargaining representatives for an Indianapolis newspaper publishing concern and a Gary, Ind. steel plant. The NLRB ordered an election within 60 days among employees of the Union Drawn Steel division of the Gary plant of the Republic Steel Corp. The election will determine whether the employees wish to be represented by the -United Steel Workers (C. 1. 0.). The federal agency also ordered an election within 60 days among janitorial employees of the Star Publishing Ce. Indianapolis, to determine if they wish to be represented by the Indianapolis Newspaper guild of the American News-| paper guild (C, 1. 0).
