| Glorified Western at Circle Provides Colorful Action.
| “Errol Flynn in a technicolor : horse-opera yesterday drew large crowds to the Circle theater. Nothing is missing from “San An- || tonio” except, perhaps, the “William Tell” overture, familiar to radio lis- | teners, This current glorified west- : 4 em has all the ingredients necessary : {iw make people forget the indigni- {| ties of being bawled out for jay-

.
{ curb. | With Mr, Flynn cast in the re - of a fearless champion of justice, ; to coin a phrase, the film also ni, cludes personable Alexis Smith, who . portrays a New York actress on a i tour of Texas in the 1870's. You can fill in the outlines of {the plot for yourself. The one {| thing that makes this picture, like || other westerns, pleasing to watch is {| the background. Space-—open, clear, fiée from smog—is a treat to the 4 eyes. | Plenty of action, from : horsei audience a good sidelines workout, {such as stadium crowds get at the |big game. And maybe that ex- | plains the appeal of westerns.— Rit H. B.

THE INDIANAPOLIS TIMES ‘Leave Her to Heaven’ Derick: ag ‘Jealousy as Mental Disease
Palit :
You had to elimb to the top of the Indiana theater balcony (about
on a level with the state house donie) ot a seat yesterday. There gas good reason for the crowd, “Leave Her to Heaven,” starring Gen# Tierney, was in its opening day. Based on the Ben Ames Willianis novel, this excellent flim does a stronger and more courageous job with the theme of insane jealousy than any other recent picture that comes to mind. In the role of a woman whose possessive love amounts to a mental, disease, Miss Tierney is highly effective. Even though her face

2 DROWN AS CAR
NEW YORK, Jan. 2 (U. P).—| A mechanical defect in a harbor | ferryboat’s controls was blamed to- | day in a weird accident which sent an automobile, plunging from a dock ramp into 30 feet of icy water, drowning its two occupants. Mr. and Mrs. Elmer James Wilson | ‘6f Belford, N. J., were en route to visit their son in Brooklyn yesterday when the couple fell as -they were driving onto the ferry at St. George, Staten Island. Their bodies | were recovered twe” and one- -half | hours later. Witnesses said that 18 cars had preceded them across the ramp onto the ferry. When the Wilson car moved onto the ramp, a hawser snapped and the ferry began to move away. Ricamond District Attorney Farrell M. Kane said the ferry captain, James Greer, told him he immediately. pushed. the control lever to move forward. ‘Green sald the engines appeared to go dead and then began operating in reverse. , The Wilsori car slowly tipped forward and tumbled into the water.

‘the name of 20th-Century Fox in
being up-to-date and free from
the sentimentality. Hollywood so often feels obliged to pour, like eau de cologne, over its women characters. "What makes the picture still more impressive is the fact that the woman with black-widow-spider tendencies is presented sympathetically, and not merely as a monster, There are many vigorous sequences, including one of the most brutal jobs of browbeating by a prosecuting attorney that the screen. has done. courtroom scene alone is worth the price of admission. You'll like the color, the settings, the directing and acting, and the good background music—~H. B.
