BLAIK LIKE McCARTHY IN BASEBALL
IF I were permitted to mark a ballot mine would go for Blaik. For several reasons. One is that I'm not in sympathy with the contention that great players automatically make a great coach. This is likely to be the rap against Blaik, just as it has been for years -against Joe McCarthy as manager of the Yasfkee baseball team. A push-button manager, Jimmy Dykes of the White Sox calls McCarthy. I don't recall offhand how many years Dykes has been managing, but the records show he's never managed a world series

Indiana, Irish And Franklin Rack Up Wins
By UNITED PRESS Notre ‘Dame's poWwer-packed Irish and Indiana university's Hoosiers kept rolling along at an undefeated clip today, but both needed last-half rallies to do it. Capt. Dick Wittenbraker, recently discharged from the: army, -convected on three consecutive long shots to apply the “pay-off punch” to Indiana's up-hill 56-53 decision over Camp* Atterbury at Atterbury last night. The Irish came from behind a 30-28 disadvantage to edge Chanute field at South Bend, 52-45. Leo Klier, who just received his naval discharge, tossed in 22 points to pace Notre Dame to its second straight victory. Wallace Has 20 Points
Another ex-serviceman, Johnny Wallace, was the big-gun in Indiana’s attack. He had 20 points. But, it was those three straight fielders by Wittenbraker that really saved the game for the Hoosiers. | In the only other Hoosier collegiate cage contest last night, Franklin | upset Central Normal, 41-35.
