The hi-jacking of $5,000,000 of Free French gold starts the action, which involves plenty of thrills and suspense. With Hoagy Carmichael playing a philosophical cab-driver called Celestial O'Brien and introducing his latest musical bit, “Memphis in June,” the well-varied cast does a good job of providing entertainment. The hunt for Johnny Angel's kidnaped father and the missing gold leads to an eventual solution of the vexing problems. Most notable in minor soles are Marvin Miller, as the villainous Gustafson, Margaret Wycherly, as Miss Drumm, and Lowell Gilmore, as Sam Jewell. On the same bill is a new film treatment of Robert Louis Stevenson's horror story of cadaver-steal-ers, “The Body Shatcher,” featuring Boris Karloff and Bela Lugosi.

The lighter side of the war, as depicted in “What Next, Corporal Hargrove?” now at Loew’s, may be a little hard for some people to take,

That is purticulatly true when G. I. humor is purified and pasteurized by Hollywood. The flavor of soldiers’ ‘conversation is removed, and all that's left resembles the pitiful attempts made after the last] war to take the sting out of horri= ble events.
