By UNITED PRESS DePauw's defending champions were off to & surprising good start today in the Indiana Collegiate conference basketball race. The Tigers, who lost all their veterans when the DePauw navy V-12 school closed, rallied in the last four minutes to upset veteranloaded Central Normal last night at Greencastle, 32-27. It was the opener for both teams. oN Earlham’s Quakers also won their opening game last night, but two other conference clubs—Wabash and Franklin—-were defeated. Earlham, with Tom Gatzec tossing in 18 points, blasted Anderson, 68-22. It was Anderson's second defeat in As many starts. : Franklin gained an early lead over Camp Atterbury, but the taller soldiers rallied to edge the Grizzlies, 46-43. Dallas Hohenstrieter hit 21 points for Franklin, Wabash also lost after holding a halftime edge as the Danville Athletic club took a 48-47 thriller. Center Jim McClain connected on two straight baskets seconds before the final gun to lead Danville to victory.
