No use giving away the happy ending, Some New Anglés Patsy Ruth Miller, author of this often bewildering opus, evidently had ah idea. Here would be a new treatment of the theme of the career-woman who is, God bless her; first and foremost a woman. There would be new angles to that theme, which Hollywood has been treating since mastiff Hector was Chihuahua size. Unfortunately, however well the idea may have been conceived, it is not sufficiently clearly executed to get across. Consequently Miss Francis is forced to enact the role of a woman whose behavior seems defhented. /That is regrettable, because Miss Francis has a bright, ingratiating personality and a pleasant, huskyvoiced diction with individual tricks of pronouncing (“I have weached the age of discwetion, and overweached it several times,” a sample punch line). In a more credible role, she would be more effective. Talents Frustrated Mr. Pryor, acting like a darn nice guy, fares better. With due respect to" Miss Francis’ talents, frustrated by the play,-Mr. Pryor holds things together and does a remarkably good job of salvaging what can be salvaged. Ruth Chatterton, who did the directing, should tone down the overacting of Jetti Preminger, as Lola La Paz, Royal Beal, as Steve Kinney, and Ruth Conley, as’ Ethel Kinney, when they feign drunken-

Adapted. by Howard - Lindsay and Russell Crouse from the book by Clarence Day, this hilarious and tender chronicle of New York family life In the 1880's has had an unprecédented long run. Part of its success is attributed to Oscar Berlin's careful production.
