WITH THE PERSONAL PRESENCE OF ADMIRAL WILLIAM F. HALSEY

“THE NAVAL CENTER OF THE WORLD

TODAY IS IN THIS GREAT INLAND CITY—

THIS IS NAVY DAY —The Fleet's in! Indianapolis. (and Indiana) is honored by the presence of Admiral William F. Halsey, Jr.

We have a suspicion that the Admiral doesn't care too much to ride in limousines. He'd rather ride a white horse—or he would feel perfectly at home—if he could cruise through viewing the city from the conning tower or forward deck of his flagship South Dakota.

But— the Admiral—to whom nothing seemed impossible— who could take his battlewagons anywhere he had a mind to

~ —blasting and blazing away from the Solomons to Tokyo

even he—couldn't negotiate Washington Street afloat. This is the world's greatest Inland City.

He will just HAVE to take a leisurely ride in a limousine! We feel certain — that Admiral Halsey willbe just as pleased to be here—as Indiana and Indianapolis are to have him! He has an awareness of Indiana's vast and inspiring

* contribution to victory!

(IN THIS GREAT NAVY-MINDED STATE.)

He knows that Indiana's record for Naval enlistments was almost fantastically large in proportion to population. And while we know that everybody salutes the Admiral —but we don't know whom the Admiral salutes— Perhaps he touches the hat in a gallant gesture to the WAVES, (Indiana led all states in WAVE enlistments—month after month—it never fell below third.)

He is proud of the fine Naval Armory in the Capitol City —And the Navy's largest Ammunition Depot at Burns City. He has used the Fire Power—the Victory Power of Indiana's factories—~whose vast reservoirs of skilled workers —turned out an avalanching volume of Planes, Ships, Guns and Precision Parts. yo

And while, of course, this great landlubber State — goes overboard on the Navy — it cherishes the view that Admiral Halsey so admirably expressed in San Francisco that Victory was achieved through the complete and total unity of all forces — of one team — Army, Navy, Marine Corps, Coast Guard — the men of the Merchant Marine — backed with industrial might,

HOOSIERS HAIL HALSEY!
