Indianapolis’ may soon have full-! season summer opera, | Plans moved forward yesterday | when the new Indianapolis Theater Association elected its first officers and opened a drive for $75,000 to initiate the opera. Two Indiana men, previously re-| ported missing, and a third, previ- | ously reported a prisoner of war, | have today been listed as dead by | the Navy department, They are: Motor Machinist's! Mate 2-¢ Kenneth Burl Clements, | Orleans, and Aviation Radioman | 2-c Herbert Andrew Kilgour Jr. Whiting, previously reported miss-/ ing, and Seaman 1-¢ David Marvin | Williams, Logansport, previously | reported a prisoner. Five Hoosier, formerly listed as| war prisoners, have now been listed | as safe. They include: Storekeep- | er 3-¢ Eldon Lee Byerly, Marengo; | Yeoman 3-c Doyle Dewitt Cordell, Clay City; Signalman 2-¢ Willis | Decon Gregg, Elkhart; Seaman 2-c | Arthur Owen Snyder, Walton, and | Chief Quartermaster Elza Russell Thaokery, Greensburg. GERMAN ENVOY TO PARIS IS ARRESTED
LONDON, Oct. 26 (U. P.).—Oftto Abetz, German ambassador to Paris during the occupation, has been arrested in the French zone near the Swiss border, radio Paris said] last night. His name was expected to be added to the list of war criminals. Before the war he was a “fifth column” leader in France. After occupation he .played a major role] in collaboration with the Vichy] government and was blamed directly for shooting of many hostages. |
