Barnum Checks
Joyce by Draw
CHICAGO, Oct. 20 (U. P.) —Willie Joyce, third-ranking lightweight in the nation, wondered today whether he still would get that crack at the world’s championship in a match against Tke Williams, N. B. A. champion, because of a draw decision with hard-punching Joey Barnum, 23-year-old Los Angeles Italian. Joyce, a left-jabbing Negro from Gary, Ind, was supposed to walk away with last night's fight, yet Barnum brushed off his dangerous left wit® stinging one-two counter punches. Barnum took a slight margin at the start of the fight and defended it well engugh for the draw verdict, which tempotrarily checked Joyce’s march toward the lightweight title match.

The game was only three minutes old When Bob Harvey raced from the ‘Tech 42 into payoff territory for Tech, The Greenclads held the upper hand thereafter. Sheridan Wins In Third Heat
Al Sheridan, Indianapolis lightheavyweight, today held the Indiaana state 175-pound boxing cham-. pionship. Sheridan opened a cut over the left eye of Tommy Charles of Terre Haute in the second round at the Armory last night. Charles came out for the third, but soon was bleeding heavily, and the bout was awarded to Sheridan by Referee Dick Patton after an examination by the athletic commission physician, Gene Gudgill, Dayton (O,) welterweight, took a decision from Sparky Reynolds of Indianapolis in a fast, slam-bang 6-round semiwindup. Gudgill's brother, Larry, also was a winner. He shaded Pedro Carsonfo of Indianapolis in a 5-rounder. Both weighed in at 150 pounds. Bob Weatherford, last year's Times-Legion Golden Gloves champ in the heavyweight class, made his first start as a pro a good one by taking a technical knockout from Bob Begley of Dayton. The Ohioan absorbed a flock of body punches in the first two rounds and was unable to answer the bell for the third. Allan Small, a former merchant marine sailor from Elwood, took the opening 4-round bout from Herb Jones of Indianapolis. They are heavyweights.
Fight Crowd Razzes One-Sided Bout
NEW YORK, Oct, 20 (U. The fans, who paid $14,000, expressed loud derision in the late going because young Tony was unable to floor or knock out his stocky opponent, who had been a virtual punching bag from the opening gong,

Caps to Face Champion Barons Here Tomorrow Night

Take Forbes, defenseman, was treated for a skate cut on his ankle
of the game. The Caps’ skipper was fairly well satisfied with his team’s front ice! attack but figured the defensemen needed some work. Indianapolis exhibited a neat passing game against the Bisons but the defensive lapse in the third period allowed the visitors to gain a tie, Cléveland has been a favorite rival of the Caps and another nearcapacity crowd is expected for the , jencounter, Game time is 8:30
