tU. OF T. EMPLOYEE GRATEFULLY PRAISES RETONGA FOR RELIEF
MR, AND MRS. J. D, JINKS
Had Suffered Severe Distress From Pains in Legs, Indigestion and Weak, Run Down Feeling That Nothing Seemed to Relieve, He States. Retonga a Great and Pleasant Surprise,
painful when I attempted to get up from a chair, I though it was due to cold and would soon pass off, but it continued to get worse. Sluggish elimination forced me to resort to the use of strong purgatives. I was very restless and seldom got a good night's sleep. My appetite was almost completely gone and nothing I ate seemed to agree with me, “This kept up for about three years and the relief Retonga gave me was a great and happy surprise, My appetite Is splendid and 1 eat anything I want. The pains in my hips and legs are entirely relieved
Happy and grateful men and vomen from all walks of life coninue to come forward with strong voluntary praise of Retonga for the prompt relief they gained hrough its use. Among the latest is Mr. J. D. Jinks, well resi~

MAY STRIKE UT] EXCISE TAX CUT
Senators Consider Restoring Luxuries Levies.
WASHINGTON, Oct. 19 (U. P.).= The senate finance committee today considered the possibility of rejecting the $535,000,000 cut in 1046 excise taxes proposed by the house, The house voted to reduce federal excises back to 1043 levels effective next July 1, The lowered rates would affect cosmetics, luggage, jewelry, furs, electric light bulbs and alcoholig beverages. Some members of the senate committee favored delaying the reduction until the end of 1946. The committée is generally re-writing the $5,350,000,000 tax relief bill approved by the house, Elimination of the excise tax cut appeared the most likely approach if the senate committee is to heed the treasury plea not to cut estimated federal revenue by more than $5,000,000,000 next year. Small Business Benefits The committee in its first session
ans. The $4,780,000,000 cut was based on committee decisions to: Repeal the excess profits tax on corporations at a savings of $3,555,000,000. . Apply surtax exemptions of $500 for the taxpayer and $500 for each dependent on all individual income. This would amount to a cut of $2,085,000,000, dropping 12,000,000 low income persons from the tax rolls. Repeal the $5 automobile use tax, saving motorists $140,000,000, In addition, the committee voted to freeze for another year the social security payroll tax of 1 per cent each on employer and employee. Freeze Social Security
The repeal of the auto use tax and freezing of social security rates
senate committee followed both treasury recommendations and the house bill,
The treasury urged repeal of the excess profits tax. The house voted only to cut it from 95 per cent in 1946 and. to cut normal corporate rates four per cent for a total cor- |
For individuals, the treasury re-| commended repeal of the three per cent normal tax applicable on all income over $500 a year, regardless of dependents. The house voted instead to give credit for dependents in figuring the normal tax and cut surtax rates four percentage points. Net Result Same The senate committee followed house léadership in giving depend- | ency credit but cut the surtax re-| duction to 3 perceritage points. The | net result was almost the same as | the treasury recommendation, {
In addition to relieving 12,000,000} low-paid persons from any federal income tax in 1046, the senate ac- | tion would spread a $1,303,000,000! saving to more than 30,000,000] others. | For example, a married man with a wife and two children pays about | $160 tax on earnings of $2500 under present law. He would pay $06 under the house plan. He would pay $100 under the senate commit-| tee proposal.
and so is the sluggish elimination.
