S. Sgt. Cloyd Sutton’s Wife Receives Medals. |

An Indianapolis soldier whose | heroism while still in this country | was almost as great as that he displayed on the battlefield was posthumously honored at Ft. Harrison this week. The soldier's medal and the bronze star which had been awarded to 8S. Sgt. Cloyd F. Sutton, the infantry hero, were presented to his ‘wife, Mrs. Pauline Sutton, 618 W. New York st. by Capt. Frank J. Luchowski, post adjutant. Sgt. Sutton won the bronze star for gallantry which cost him his life Oct. 28, 1944, fighting the Japanese. During a night banzai attack he was seriously wounded by; a bayonet thrust. t He continued to fight and killed | his assailant with fhe butt of his | rifle before he died. * Had Risked Life While still a trainee Sgt. Sution displayed heroism that resulted in| the award of the soldier's medal by direction of the President. He | risked his life In attempting to! rescue four enlisted men from a burning tank April 1, 1944, at Camp, White, Ore. A training tank accidentally over- | turned and caught fire, trapping its four occupants. Sgt, Sutton grabbed several fire extinguishers from | trucks in the vicinity and passed | them to the trapped men. He then attempted to open the| jammed hatches with his bare!
