New principal ‘cellist for the Indianapolis Symphony orchestra this year will be James Arkatov, previously with the San Francisco and Pittsburgh symphony orchestras. Mr. Arkatov studied with the late Emanuel Feuermann. He is the son of a motion picture director in Russia in the days when Indianapolis symphony conductor Fabien BSevitzky was playing first bass in the St, Petersburg opera and doing a little movie-acting as a sideline, Dr, Sevitzky has appeared in several movies directed by his new ‘cellist’s father.
