NEW YORK, Sept. 22 (U. P).— The=Detroit Tigers, who have won 16 out of 28 games in September, needed only an even break in their remaining six contests today to be sure of at least a tie for the American league pennant. Overlooked in the recent letdown of the Tigers is the fact that they have been playing at a .615 percentage during the last month of the season, whereas their overall percentage is 574. They were in a strong position because of the unstinting co-operation of the Yankees, who practically “impeached” the Senators by beating them two games in a row in a “last ditch” series at New York. Washington, with only three games left, all with the last place Athletics at Philadelphia, would have to sweep the series to tie the Tigers, provided Detroit gets an even break in its last six. The only way the Tigers could lose the pennant wouid be to drop four or more games while Washington won'all three. One extremely remote possibility involved last year’s champion Browns, who could squeeze in by winning all of their eight remaining games, four of which are with the Tigers. They are six games out of the lead.

Cycle Races Are Scheduled
