Pfc. Lundy Abs Absent From Family. 6 Years.
Three Indianapolis prisoners of « war in Japan have been liberated by American rescue teams and are to be sent back to this country. They are: Pfc. William E. Lundy, foster son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Stites, 2322 N. Gale st.; Pfc. Roy Gentry, son of James Gentry, 383 Dorman st., and 8, Sgt. Francis L. McEowen, son of Mrs. Elva McEowen, 1125 N. Arsenal st." Pfc. Lundy’s liberation will mean that he will be reunited with his family for the first time in six years, more than four years of which has been spent in a prison camp, _ Pfc. Lundy, who is-27, was taken prisoner at Clark field in the Philippines the day after the attack on Pearl Harbor. He had been over= seas since 1939.
18 Months’ Silence Mrs. Stites had received no word from her foster son for 18 months, prior to the liberation notice. Pfc. Lundy has two brothers in service, 8. Sgt. Alexander Lundy, in China, and Robert, in officers’ candidate school at Camp Lee, Va. A prisoner for 43 months, Pfc. Gentry also has been separated from his family six years. He éntered the service in 1937 and went overseas in 1941. He was taken prisoner in the Philippines. His brother, Carpenters’ Mate 3-c Cleo Gentry, was home on leave when the liberation notice came, after serving 23 months in the Pacific. Shot down Sept. 11, 1043, in the Asiatic area, S. 8gt. McEowen was listed missing in action until February of this year when the Japs announced he was a prisoner. The 23-year-old soldier has been in service four years and overseas since October of 1942. He has a brother, 1st Lt, Robert McEowen, on Tinian,
