AIR RACES PROPOSED CANBERRA, Sept. 18 (U. P.).— Prime Minister Joseph B. Chifley proposed today that a Pacific exposition be held in 1948 with air races from London and New York to 0 Sydney as the main feature.

LAST 2 DAYS!

CHICAGO, Sept. 18 (U. P.) —Fed~ eral Judge Philip L. Sullivan yes~ tgrday denied the Chicago & Eastern railroad a new trial in the case of two soldiers killed in a wreck but suggested that an appeal would clarify an Indiana “wrongful death” act, The poldiers, Benjamin R. Brown of Minneapolis and Charles W, Mercer of Packwood, Ia, were two of 26 persons killed in the wreck which occurred near Dewey, Ind, Sept. 14, 1944, The parents of both men sued for $10,000 each, A judy awarded the parents of Brown $9,000 while $8,500 was awarded in the case of Mercer. It was contended by the railroad that the plaintiffs had not proved “dependency next of kin.” As provided by Indiana law, Judge Sullivan said that nothing pertaining to the Indiana “wrongful death” act was brought up at the trials and said he presumed the defendant would appeal which should provide a precedent for the remaining cases.
