He promised to help for three days -—that was on Nov. 2, 1928—but it was April 19, 1945, before he left, And that's only part of Claude D. Gould's record as linotypist on The Indianapolis Times. He is re~ tiring after a Mfetime in the print ing trade, about a total of 22 years of which he has speat on The Times. Born in Virginia in 1881, Mr, Gould was raised in Indiana. It was in Centerville, Ind., that he got his start as a printer—on the Centerville News-Record. His “salary” was 50 cents a week. Coming back to Indianapolis, Mr, Gould has worked on about every newspaper that ever existed in Indianapolis, including the Union Picket (in 1896), the Indianapolis Peoples, the Indianapolis Sentinel, the Indianapolis Journal and the Press. Since then he has worked on all the later papers.
