West raced up to the bridge, saw he was cornered and abandoned the automobile, officials reported. He headed for a wooded area. A rifle shot entered West's hip and passed through his body hospital surgeons said. The four prisoners who succeeded in escaping in another attempt, include Lewis ©. Mulcahy, 25, of Baltimore, Md.; Paul Turner, 22, of Pink Hill, N. C.; George 8. Brown, 25, of Richmond Hill, N. Y, and James E. Bennett, with a cast on his leg.
