UNEXPENDED WAR FUND REPORT ASKED

WASHINGTON, Aug. 16 (U. P) —Chairman Clarence Cannon (D. Mo.) of the house appropriation committee, today called for a: full scale economy drive to cut down government spending. Cannon, who rushed to Washington immediately after the Japanese surrender, said his committee was asking all government agencies to {report on their financial conditions. {He said the committee would go over their reports in an effort to recapture as much as possible of the $127,000,000,000 in unexpended war funds. Since June of 1940, Cannon said $420,000,000,000, including $8338. 000,000 in unliquidated contract |authorizations, have been made |available for war activities. “That means that in the space | / lof five years there was made avail- / |able for expenditure for war ac- | {tivities approximately 2% times as | much as was expended during | peace and war from the beginning | of the government to the end of
