A WPB communications expert said it will take a year and a half—up to 1947—before supply meets demand and the nation’s telephone system {is renovated.

Halsey’ s Saddle Flying to Japan
CHICAGO, Aug. The saddle that Adm Halsey hopes to rides the emperor's white horse was en route to Tokyo today— by air express. Within an hour after the ornate, western-style saddle arrived Chicago yesterday, display to boost war bond sales, the Reno, Nev, chamber of commerce telegraphed a frantic plea for its immediate return. They reasoned, with considerable justification, that Halsey might have need for the saddle sooner than originally anticipated.
