Comedy Duo At Indiana

Abbott, Costello Appear in Thirteenth Film,

and the short, fat Lou Costello, who is always the brunt of the joke, {are starred in their 13th opus, “The Naughty Nineties,” yesterday at the Indiana theater, The picture is set aboard and oldtime Mississippi river showboat ‘where Abbott holds forth as a ham actor, and Costello is very busy as chief roustabout. Captain of the showboat, played by Henry Travers, and Lois Colliers, cast as his lovely daughter, lose control of their boat to a pair of second rate gamblers, enacted by Rita Johnson and Joe Sawyer, Then the clowns take over in a series of hilarious episodes. They finally succeed — through methods which they alone understand—in running the two gamblers off the boat and restoring it to respectability. Only true Abbott and Costello fans realize how much trouble they cause doing this. In one of the wildest sequences, in a chase along the showboat deck, the two comics and members of the «ast ran more than 11 miles during the filming. Being a screwy picture from the beginning, the producers pull all the stops and let one of the crooks reform and wed the captain's daughter, The second feature on the In-

thriller, “The Woman in Green,”

starring Basil Rathbone and Nigel Bruce.
