PARKING LIMIT; FEES ADOPTED

Regulations “Apply When Meters Are Installed.

Parking In the mile-square will be limited to periods ranging from 24 minutes to two hours with in-

stallation “ of the’ “proposed 2000

parking meters. The charge for parking will be

five cents an hour and parkers will

not bé allowed to “hog” spaces merely by continuing to insert coins. These are the rules adopted yesterday by the city plan commission, under authority of a 1945 state law sponsored by State Senator John W. Atherton. He also is president of the plan commission. The parking meters will be pur- _ chased jointly by the works and * safety boards, to assure legal re- , quirements are met. Some doubt . was cast over authority of the safety board by disclosure of a state law in conflict with a city ordinance. The entire value of the parking * meter plan, observers point out, de- * pends upon police supervision. If stickers are placed on overtime vehicles, the effectiveness of: the meters will be lost. The meters were described by Senator Atherton as “the greatest

LABOR PARLEY IEA APPROVED

conference” between union ‘and industry officials. President William Green of the American Federation of Labor said he would submit the plan to the A. F. of ‘L. executive council at its Chicago meeting next week. “The A. F. of L. has always been ready,” he said in a statement, “to sit down with representatives of industry for the purpose of promoting co-operative. relationships and establishing industrial peace.” “The C. I. O. will be pleased to join with business in meeting for the purpose of giving overall consideration to problems affécting the economic well-being of the nation and its people,” C. I. O. President Philip Murray said. ‘Long Advocated’ He said the C. I. O. has “long advocated such a meeting, and we are actually supporting the labormanagement charter now outstanding.” He referred to the agreement reached earlier this year by the A. F. of L. and C. I. O. representatives with the U. 8S. Chamber of Commerce. President John L. Lewis of the United Mine Workers is ready, it was learned, to atcept an invitation to such a conclave. President Eric Johnston of the U. 8. Chamber of Commerce ‘“‘welcomed” Vandenberg’s proposal, saying the voluntary conference method (between management and labor was “in the best American tradition.” Ira Mosher, president of the National Association of Manufacturers, said in New York the N. A. M. would be glad to participate in such a conference. “Give and Take”

In an atmosphere of free give and take “labor and management can find many areas of agreement and, in my opinion, can find the means of reconciling many points of disagreement,” Mosher said. Vandenberg made his proposal in a letter to Secretary of Labor Lewis B. Schwellenbach. He said that a labor-management conference could work lasting industrial peace just as the San Francisco conference did for world peace. He suggested Schwellenbach call the conference immediately so that “needless strife shall not impair reconversion.”

SUSPEND PATROLMEN ON NEGLECT CHARGE

Two patrolmen assigned to an East side district have been suspended by the safety board for 50 days each, following a finding of guilty on charges of neglect of duty. The patrolmen, George Kahl and Joseph Fowley, were charged with being approximately 30 minutes late in answering a call, and arriving at the scene with two unidentified women in the police car. % A large number of persons living in the vicinity of 10th and Wallace sts., where the police car was called, appeared at the safety board hearing. The patrolmen had been called to the intersection July 13 after a pedestrian, Robert McClintock, 35, of 336 8S. Butler ave.,, was struck by a hit-run driver, He recovered from severe head injuries.

Pin-Up Genie Sparks Film

Murder, Intrigue Mixed In ‘Thousand, One Nights’

A pin-up genie, the princess of Bagdad, the sultan’s harem, two sets of twins and an evil giant are well stirred and mixed into “A Thousand and One Nights,” now at Loew's, Aladdin (Cornel Wilde), the Frank Sinatra of some 1200 ‘years ago, sets the plot to perkin’ when he takes a forbidden stare at the face of Princess Armina Jergens). Liking it, he woos her. The princess returns his love and they meet for a garden rendezvous, but palace guards discover the swoon king suitor and send him to jail. With the help of a maid, now=ever, Aladdin and his Ouddy, Abdullah (Phil Silvers) a career pickpocket, escape. Meanwhile the sultan’s wicked identical twin has taken his highness for a not-so-royal ride, and set himself upon the throne. Aladdin and Abdullah in their flight cross paths with a sorcerer, who tells of a magic wishing lamp guaranteed to cure all their headaches and win them the princess. Outwitting a giant, amidst other trials, they get the lamp and the glamorous genie (Evelyn Keyes) appears. Aladdin charges her to make him the Prince of Hindustan in crder that he may marry Princess Armina. With the help of the lamp it is done. Prince Aladdin and the princess are about to say their “I do's,” when the genie converts him to rags. Also, she, too, has fallen for the “Bagdad Voice.” At this point the characters are boiling over with murder and intrigue—the genie fights for Aladdin’s love—Aladdin and Abdullah fight for-their skins—and the captured sultan battles for his throne. In the unravelled, happy ending Aladdin becomes twins via the magic lamp—the original for the princess, the carbon for the genie.
