Wins Seven Straight
Simmons has won 26 of 28 bouts before local fans while Reynolds olds seven straight verdicts here without defeat. The weigh-ins, incidentally, are in line with the new state athletic commission’s policy to put the ring sport on a higher plane in Indiana. Commission Secretary W. N. (Newt) Ringer and" Inspector Fred DeBorde planned to be on hand for the official checking of the weights of all contestants on tonight's card. Ringer wasn't as happy yester-
tions. During the jaunt he visited with commissioners and secretaries in Wisconsin, Michigan, Illinois, Ohio, Missouri and Kentucky. Fighters from these states appear oftener in Indiana, and the same holds true for the Hoosier battlers. Ringer thinks the trip was worthwhile. He brought back pledges of closer liaison from all commissions in the matter of relaying information concerning suspended boys, who sometimes have a tricky habit of wandering into | another state and fighting under an assumed name. All such shenannigans, of course, are frowned on in the legitimate boxing circles,
in one city if held in the U. 8. The

Ott of the Giants.
in a lifetime. Numbet 500 came up for Manager Ott of the Giants last night and it was an occasion to remember. It has been a rocky year for Ott, who as manager of the Giants. shared some of the blame for the team’s colossal collapse after a brilliant start that enabled it to. take a seven-game lead. If he had any misgivings over how he stands with the Polo Grounds faithful they should have been dissipated with the roar that greeted his historic circuit of the base paths.
Helped Clinch Victory
The homer came off--Johnny Hutchings of the Braves in the third inning and helped to clinch a 9-to-2 victory. Ott, now in his 20th season, still has a way to go before he catches Foxx, who has hit 531 homers and who isn’t likely to go much beyond that figure as he finishes out his long career with the Phillies. And it seems beyond the realm of possibility that the little man will ever surpass the record of. the one and only Ruth, whose total is 714. Carroll (Whitey) Lockman also delivered a giant homer as Bill Em-
course-——8262 yards—the Thornhill layout has been lengthened to 6747 yards by some drastic last-minute changes. But ‘Toronto golf observers doubt if the lengthened course wil offer much oposition to Nelson and his gold-hunting rivals in the 72-hole event. The course professional, Art Hulbert, is not ranked among Ontario's top pros, but he once racked up a 63 over the diminutive layout. For this reason, some observers predict that new low marks will be established for single-round and 72-hole tournaments before the three-day scramble is over. Toronto. observers think Craig Wood, duration U. 8. Open titleholder and winner of the last Canadian Open has the best chance to upset Nelson. Others rated a
chance include Sammy Snead, three
times winner of the Canadian Open; Jug McSpaden, winner of the event in 1939 and Jimmy Thomson, runner-up in 1936 and 1942.
Trophies Provided
For Tennis Meet The Central Indiana Tennis association will present a three-time winner trophy to the victory of the men’s singles event. The last trophy was retired by Tommy Wilson. The winner of the women's singles will have the first leg on the threetime winner victory award. Louise Karle Murphy presented this trophy to the association. Tomorrow is the dead line for entering the tournament. Entries maybe made at the sporting goods stores, Room 302 of the City Hall, or by calling Mrs. Andrew Bicket.
