15 cs molasses, % c¢ tomato catsup, needed, ' lb. salt park, sliced, Pick over thoroughly. Add cori watery cover, heat to boiling and simmer for 30 mins. Drain, but do not discard the liquid. Place onion slices in. the bottom ‘of a 10-cup casserole. Combine the next 7 ingredients and add the beans and enough hot drained liquid to cover or water (about 2':z ¢.). Arrange salt pork slices on top Cover and bake in a 250 degrees F oven for 7 to 5 hrs. After four hours, remove 2 ¢ beans and mash. Return to’ casserole and stir carefully to distribute with beans. Cover and continue to bake. Add additional hot bean liquid or water as needed. Beans should be just covered. Remove cover 1 hour before end of] cooking time to allow salt pork to brown. Serves 10 to 12,

Burns was forced down on his first mission after completing a run. over Japan. Sgt. Burn; was a native of Youngstown, 0O., and had entered the army air corps three and a half -years ago.
