Ww RELIEF FOR

WORKERS URGED

Lawyers’ Guild Proposes Greater Exemptions. WASHINGTON, July 9 (U. P).—=

The National Lawyers Guild sug- |

gested today that the ‘house-ap-proved reganversion {ax bill be amended to glve greater income tax exemptions and other financial | relief to wage earners. In a statement to members of the | rouse, the guild proposed an crease in personal income tax exemptions from the present $500 to] $1000. It also urged that the three pe: cent normal tax be eliminated and]

that individuals be permitted to.

carry over and back for two years] their unused personal exemption and credits for dependents. The guild said that in its present form the bill affords no relief to! war workers thrown’'out of jobs by | cutbacks in war production. The measure, now awaiting hearings before the senate finance committee, grants tax relief to small business: and the railroads during reconversion. It would increase from $10,000 to $25,000 the exemptions on excess profits on 1946 earnings. It also permits reorganized bankrupt railroads to carry over thelr net operating losses or unused excess profits.
