DANES SPEEDY IN RECOVERY

Nation Receives Aid From Stocks Nazis Left.

Big Supply Dumps We found a terrific quantity of material here. It is obvious that the Nazis intended to make a protracted stand here. There were about 1200 military aircraft, includ. ing some of the finest new German Jet planes. At Elsinore we found what were described as flying torpedoes. And all over the place we came across great’ dumps of munitions, Several thousand motor vehicles of all descriptions are now being collected at designated spots and the authorities are taking steps to re“ewver hundreds of others, which were snatched by private individuals before things got organized. It has been necessary to do some pretty plain speaking to certain Danish officials on the subject of this equipment. They suffered from the illusion that all German equipment left in Denmark automatically belonged to Denmark. Allies Hold Priority They have been told that the Germans were beaten by the United Nations, that the latter are still at war with Japan and that every ounce of equipment found here must be: devoted to the common cause. In disposing of German supplies, first priority is given to the demands of allied forces here and in Germany. Perishables, however, automatically have been handed | over immediately to Danish evil authorities. The second step is to select materials, which are needed by Denmark and can be used to reduce our emergency export program to this country—thus saving shipping, A German shipload of fertilizer, for example, was recently assigned to the Danes.
