WASHINGTON, June 26 (U. P). —A house military affairs subcommittee was informed today that guards who beat soldier prisoners at the Ft. Lincoln, Neb. air base last year had been punished. Rep. Leon H. Gavin (R. Pa.) told the house yesterday that an M. P. had clubbed a young cadet at the. base into unconsciousness sametime last year. A member of the subcommittee which investigated the case, Gavin said the cadet, who had been courtmartialed for a minor infraction of the rules, had been ordered to break rocks with a short-handled sledge at 120 strokes per minute {and the M. P. did not believe he was working fast enough. ' Sergeant Sentenced

in the Capitol Avenue Methodist church.

About 142 boys and girls are enrolled in the school,

which is

sponsored by the University Park Christian church and the First Church of the Brethren in addition to the host congregation. Chief feature of all vacation schools in the churches is a study

of the Bible and Bible stories.

There is supervised recreation and handiwork. Very small children are given a light lunch of milk and crackers to refresh them in the midst of the warm summer morning.

This offers an opportunity to explain the custom of grace Before meals. ; Tomorrow morning, the pupils in the Capitol Avenue church will have a “worship experience.” They will be taken into the sanctuary for a service. The ministers of the sponsoring churches

will be in charge. Dr. S. Grundy Fisher is pastor at University Park; the Rev. I. D. Leatherman,

|; of the Church of the Brethren and

the R®V. J. Floyd Seelig, of the host congregation. The vacation school will close

with a festive program Friday. |

Parents will be invited to attend

and view the handiwork of their children. Also, there will be a picture to demonstrate the new visual aid part of the: course of study. Mrs, Bert Wilson is director.

“General Electric has approved plans for a new . $8,000,000 Research Laboratory. This expenditure has tremendous significance. Scientific research has contributed much to our progress as a

“Today we have 550 research people on our staff. These new facilities will not only give increased outlet for their
