Plane Crashes

transport plane crashed into a New Guinea “Shangri La" last month, the army revealed today. Three- aboard survived and soon will be brought out of the lost| world. ~~ An officer, an enlisted man and a WAC—the only survivors of the! big transport plane crash—are under medical care while awaiting | completion of an emergency air | strip from which they can be fiown| out of the hidden valley in the] Oranje mountains of Dutch New Guinea. They are 1st Lt. John S. McCollom, Trenton, Mo.; Sgt. Kenneth W. Decker, Kelso, Wash, and Cpl Margaret J. Hastings, Oswego, N. Y. The plane crashed in the wilds on May 13 while on a routine flight. Powerful air currents peculiar tp the mountains apparently sucked it down to destruction from an altitude of 7200 feet. 2 Twenty-four planes searched for three days before the wreckage was found. A Fortress dropped yellow life rafts to mark the spot.

Class day for the seniors will be observed at 3:05 p. m. Tuesday in the auditorium. William Hodges, class president, will present the class gift, and Guy Fish, president of the junior class, will receive the gavel. LaVena Valant is chairman of the class day committee. Marko Milatovich is the winner of the cash award offered by the | student union for selling the larg- | est amount of war bonds from May | 1 to June 1. Others high in bond sales are Olga Alexoff, Naida Petranoff, Helen Doneff and William Hider. ’
