EXPECT GIS TO. BOOM HOUSING

Discharged Men Can Get Loans, Priorities.

" BY EARL RICHERT Scripps-Howard Staff Writer WASHINGTON, May 17.—Hous~ ing agency officials expect many returned veterans and their brides

“dream homes” right away.

The way was cleared fos them |’

months ago and men who wre being discwarged now will find they f can get priority to built houses practically for the asking. All a veferan or his - builder has to do is to go to a federal housing § agency office, file Mr. Richert application and show that he is honorably discharged or on inactive status. He will be granted an AA-3 priority. This is the top priority for housing, the same as that issued for war housing projects. Veteran Must Finance With this priority, the’ veteran can build any kind of a home he chooses as long as the labor and materials do not amount to over $10,000. The priority is good. only up to that amount. Since the cost of the lot is not inpluded, this makes it possible for the veteran to build what the salesman would call a $12,000 or $13,000 house. The financing, of course, is up * to ‘tHe: veteran. Under the G. I bill of rights, the veterans administration will guarantee a loan for house building only up to $2000 and that is contingent on whether the veteran is adjudged a good risk. : Risk of Jail Even a veteran who already owns a home can get an AA-3. priority-to Jbulld a new one under the FHA regulations. fa But a veteran runs the risk of a jail sentence and fine if he takes undue advantage of the facilities offered him by building a house, living in it only a short time and then selling it in the wartime market for a profit, In getting a priority, the veteran must state that he wants to build a home for himself and family, If he sells he house and it can be shown it was his intent all along to do so he is subject to a stiff fine and jail sentence as a violator of a priority certificate.
