Coach Walter Mowrey's Warren Central thinlies successfully defended their Marion county track and fleld championship at Washington oval yesterday, led by thelr individual star, Fred (Jake) Matzke. Scores of the meet were: Warren Central 735-6, Bem Davis 31', Southport 1-6, Lawrence Central 17%, Franklin township 8, Pike township 6, Decatur Central did not score, Matzke ran’the century in 103 seconds to equal the meet record and the Warrior * half-mile relay team negotiated this race in 1:36.1 to erase by three-tenths of a second the mark set in 1938 by Southport. Matzke anchored this team and the other members were Charles Roberts, Charles Kohlmeyer and Richard Powers. The Warrior ace also won the 220-yard dash and the broad jump. Henry Tonges of Southport won both hurdle events and Bob Rodibaugh of Pike township ran the mile in 4:46 for the best in the county. Don Manka's half-mile time of 2:073 for the Bears also was a “best.”
