That is one reason why many architects believe that after the war a great many of us are going to want glass houses. ‘Even when there is plenty of coal, oil and gas, it will continue to cost money. To demonstrate, let's take the case of Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Duncan who have a six-room ¢house in Homewood, Ill, a Chicago suburb. \ One thermometer

That the Duncans did is attested by records of the Illinois Institute of Technology keeping minute-by-minute records in a study of home heating by sunlight. The Duncans’ residence is not, strictly speaking, a glass house. It is what architects speak of as a “solar house.” Such buildings can be of brick, stone, or woodshingled, clapboarded, or barkcovered logs. They can be of con-

WASHINGTON, April 11 (U. P.).—The senat€, which last week overwhelmingly voted down a “job freeze” bill, was considering a new manpower problem today— its own absenteeism, Members were under an implied warning that if more of them don't stay at their desks during sessions, they may have a slice taken out of their $10,000-a- -year salaries, Such a statute, Senator Robert M. La Follette (Prog. GARY, Ind, April 11 (U. P).— Production was halted for.the third day at the Gary sheet and tin mill of the Carnegie-Illinois Steel Corp. today in what company officials termed a strike and union leaders said was a lockout, y The dispute, which left 930 workers idle, was certified to the war labor board yesterday by the U. 8. conciliation service after it had failed to end the work stoppage. A new production plan set up by the company a month ago was blamed for the dispute. The come pany said the plan was a new incentive pay system approved by the WLB, while the workers contended that it was a speedup.
