Roy Clayton's Body Found On Floor; Believe He Was ‘Smoke Victim.
Apparently overcome by smoke as he fought the flames, Roy Clayton, 45, was found dead on the floor of his burning home at: 315 S. Lyons ave. last night.
Fire that appeared lo have been |
caused by a short circuit in the wiring . system, started while -other members of the family were away visiting at the home of nearby relatives. When his wife and two sons, Robert and William Clayton returned home they found the interior of the house aflame and Mr. Clayton lying on the floor. Death was due to suffocation, A third son, Roy Clayton, is serving in the army overseas. The first of the season's grass fires broke out in the eastern saburbs of the city yesterday. One burned over a smile-square area between E. Washington and 10th sts., just east of the city limits. Volunteer firemen - prevented the flames from spreading to 24 houses in the area.
