questions in this column dally,

DEAR JANE JORDAN-I am the father of two. girls, one six and the other five. The children’s mother and I have been divorced for five years. I have worked and taken care of them the best way I can. I don’t make much money but we are happy. Their mother has married again but I am still single. I am in a tight spot at the present time because I need an operation but I can't have this operation until I

know the children have someone to take care of them until I am well. I asked the welfare to find them a good a ES place but when they asked me who had the custody of the chil-

dren, I had to tell them their mother did, not I, although they have been in my care

gll ‘this time.

They *sald that

they would have to ask the chil- Jane Jordan dren's mother first, I asked her to take care of them for me but she said, she couldn't and her husband said that she could not do this one little favor for her own children. This favor I asked was not for me but for her own flesh and blood. She and her husband acted as if we were so much dirt under their feet.

«Now. she is going to give me the

custody of the children, which is all right with me. I am afraid to get married again for fear I will get someone who will be mean to

. my children. Now tell me what you

think of a woman who will turn her children away, L. C.

Answer—If the woman was willing to leave her children in the first place, you should not have expected her to come to their rescue when they needed her. It is not in keeping with her character. She remains true to type, a woman

‘without strong maternal , feelings,

without any decent sense of re-

be so hurt when she disappoints you again? Get the custody of the children in your own hands and never count on her for anything. Try not to let the children know that she refused to take care of them. The less they know about

‘| your troubles, the better it will be

for them. They know that their security rests in their father. When

you are well you will have a happy home together again. And don't be so sure that you never will find a good wife for yourself and a good stepmother for your children. It is a good thing to be cautious but not too embittered, for all women are not like the woman you married. JANE JORDAN.

and Mrs. Charles’ Myers, Osgood,

and nephew of Miss Grace Custer, Shortridge high school teacher, has been promoted to first lieutenant. He is with the 3d armored division at Cologne,
