By RICHARD MOWRER

Times Foreign Correspondent . wiTH THE 15TH “ARMY Va le ntine GROUP, IN ITALY, Feb. 9.—The German high command evidently believes that at this stage of the war the material benefits to be +gagped from holding the ‘present’ front here are worth the troops necessary to do the holding. Perhaps, too, they consider that for the purposes of morale they might as well stay on one front where they have a good chance of holding. They know full well. that to force them back the allies wo a have to build up stocks and acct manpower, all of which would ho a strain on allied Shipping limitations. At anv rate, there is. no Sin here that the enemy - is gelling ready to leave. Since the. Red army's .invasion of eastern Germany allied patrols on ‘this front , have been particularly aggressive, put their probings have consistently encountered determined opposition.
