sauce: Sift 1% c. sifted flour with 12 tsp. salt, 1 tbsp. ‘baking powder into a bowl, Stir in % c. evaporated milk, % c. water and 1 c. applesauce. Mix until smooth. Stir in 3 well-beaten eggs and beat until smooth. Add 3 tbsps. melted shortening. Bake in a pre-heated waffle iron. Makes five 8-in, waffles, To make sauce: Combine 1 c. sugar, % tsp. cinnamon, pinch of salt and stir in 1 c. water and % ec. corn sirup. Simmer 20 mins. or cook to 218 degrees P. Add 1 tbsp. butter. Remove from heat. Serve hot on wafTles, or cold, if preferred.
