WASHINGTON, Jan. 25 (U. P.) — The . census buréau has disclosed © that as of last July 1 there were as many women as men in the United tates, that some 5,537,603 Amerians were serving overseas in the rmed forces, and that the wartime irth rate was still on the rise. The bureau's preliminary estites show the population on July was 138,100,874, a total more than ,600,000 higher than the figure for July 1, 1943. The estimated popution on July 1, 1944, exclusive of “overseas personnel of the armed orces was 132,663,271, The bureau said there were 69, i D47,321 males in the overall popula‘tion as compared with 69,053,553 | emales, The bureau said, however, that in view of the preliminary naBl ture of its estimates this “should not be taken as the basis for a posi- | tive statement that the number of | females actually exceeded the number of males.”
