You've seen the picture and perhaps even read the book. But you'll still enjoy the stage version. of Daphne Du Maurier’s “Rebecca.” At least that is how local first nighters felt last night after the performance of the interesting drama at English’s. The play features a trio- of fine actors—Bramwell Fletcher as Maxim de Wihter, head of the great estate of Manderley; Diana Barrymore,
wife of Mr. Fletcher on and off the stage, and Florence Reed as the sinister Mrs. Danvers, a personal maid of the first Mrs. de Winter. The entire action takes place in

This, however, does not detract from the effectiveness of the play. . “Rebecca” tells the story of Mr. de Winter and, hig young, timid second wife, who was haunted continually by the spirit of the beautiful first: Mrs. de Winter, : Miss Barrymore in her acting lives up to the name made famous by her father, the late John Barrymore. The first Mrs. de Winter, idolized by Mrs. Danvers, was: murdered by her husband who secretly hated her. Her hody was pushed to sea in a leaky boat and left to sink, The tragedy had happened only a.year before the head 6f Manderley
