cide Laura is dead—her head almost blown off by a blast of buckshot. With typical Hollywood finesse Laura suddenly appears at her apartment (after a few warmingup reels have been shown), tells Detective Mark McPherson (Dana Andrews) she’s been in the country.
Doesn't Know She's Dead
No newspapers, no radio, no nothing, she explains, caused her apparent ignorance of the fact she's supposed to have been murdered. At this point the suspense in the film picks up. McPherson turns his attentions to a newspaper writer whom he regards as “too friendly” with Laura. The detective, in a trick to expose the killer, drags Laura to the police station, accusing her of her own murder—only by now it's been decided the dead girl is someone else. The co-feature is “Reckless Age,” with Gloria Jean.
