WATTS ARRAIGNMENT
+ IN EX-WIFE'S DEATH| |
DECATUR, Ind. Dec, 14 (U. P.).— Early arraignment was expected today of Orval Johnson, 40, on first and second degree murder indicts
ments returned yesterday by the|
Adams county grand jury in connection with the fatal shooting of his ex-wife, Mrs. Mary Johnson; 29. Johnson = surrenfiered to Police Chief E. H. Dickett in Richmond last Friday, his wife's body in his The Decatur man first related that she was shot during a Struggle for a weapon which he claimed she produced. Later, according to Dickett, he confessed that he shot her when she attempted to leap from the automobile after refusing to remarry him. The officer said that Johnson told of firing a second shot from his pistol to lend credence to his first version of the affair. He spent the night at Redkey, then drove to Richmond with the corpse in the auto. The Johnsons, parents of three children, had been divorced only a few days.

THE INDIANA P. A. C,, which most Republicans admit cut down their majorities in the recent election, is getting®ready now for the
1946 elections,
The P. A. €. executive committee will meet here Tuesday to make plans for a state-wide Political Action Committee convention, probably in January. The convention will formulate plans for the next
election at which a United States senator and 11 congressmen will be chosen. Walter Frisbie, secretary of the P. A. C, said that plans were being discussed for formulation
of a state-wide Citizens Political
Action Committee, incorporating other groups with the present Political Action Committee. Present No, 1 targets of the P. A. C. for the "46 election are Republican Congressmen Robert A. Grant of South Bend, Forest A. Harness of Kokomo and Raymond Springer of Connersville, Mr. Frisbie sald the P. A. C.
would not be against-these men
two’ years hence, however, “if they change and go along with the current.”
Auditing Campaign Costs THE EXECUTIVE committee of the P. A. C. will decide’ whether to have a certified public account~ ant or an” auditing committee audit its recent campaign contri-
butions and expenses. When the audit is completed,
. it will be made public and copies
probably will be laid on the desks of all Indiana legislators, Mr, Frisbie said the report would show the P.A.C. contributions and expenses to be
“startlingly low.” Chief items of
expense were radio time and campaign literature. No donations wére made to any candidate, At one time last summer, the P.A. OC. financial goal for the campaign was $100,000, But it is known that nowhere near this amount of money was collected.
