OAK HILL FORMS VIGILANCE UNIT
Neighborhood League Keeps Watch for Suspects in
«Crime Wave.
Sitting in & darkened window with a shotgun across the knee in the manner of pioneers is the growing practice among some residents of ‘the Oak Hill community, A number of burglaries and attempted attacks upon women of the neighborhood has brought action from those living in the vicinity of Roosevelt ave. between Rural st. and Hillside ave. Police asserted today that the section is being patrolled carefully, Some residents at a recent meeting of the Oak Hill Civic league—organized about six weeks ago—have voiced criticism of auphorities for not doing more to control the situation.
A few days ago, however, police apprehended a 17-year-old boy who is thought to have been responsible for several of the burglaries. Several neighbors have tentatively identified him as the person seen leaving burglarized houses. Several members of the league have been appointed to a commit tee that will confer with city authorities regarding. the situation. The committee will point out its willingness to serve as auxiliary police unless additional protection is provided. . In the last month, one resident said, five houses in one block have been entered illegally. Some valuable articles have been lost, it was said.

RUSSIAN RELIEF PLANS REVISED
Outworn Garments Sought In Lieu of Children’s New Clothing.
The drive for new children’s clothing for Russian children has been abandoned by Russian war relief today, The committee is now seeking outgrown garments, condensed or evaporated milk, canned baby food, packaged raisins and baby talcum powder, The announcement was made by the Rt. Rev. Richard A. Kirchhoffer, state chairman of Russian war relief, He exuplained that WPB-a OPA officials had reported a'scarcity of children’s clothes in retail stores due to the increase of cons sumer demands at Christmas time. The new requests ‘have met the approval of government officials. Nation-Wide Appeal Bishop Kirchhoffer said that “We are concerned in working for the best advantage of our national economy while continuing to supply our Soviet allies with much-needed relief, The appeal for new clothing was nation-wide and all state committees are believed to be changing to the new program. Col. Everett L. Gardner, chairman of the Indianapolis committee for Russian war relief, said the local group would join in the new appeal, Gifts of new clothing already purchased for Russian children will still be accepted at Russian war relief headquarters, 143 E.
