“GERMANS ATTACKING
ON ITALIAN FRONTS
ROME, Dec. 13 (U. P.).~The Germans have launched a series of attacks along the 5th army front, headquarters disclosed today, in an apparent effort to upset preparations for a possible large scale offensive toward Bologna. British troops of the 5th army were driven temporarily from Castel Nuova on Mount Cerere by a strong German attack but regained the position after hard fighting. Considerable activity was noted behind German lines and even on the west coast American patrols were engaged in fierce fights by the Germans. Canadian troops of the 8th army pushed two bridgeheads across the Lamone river southwest of Ravenna and despite vigorous counter-at-tacks linked them along a 6000yard front. The 8th army units now are astride the Russi-Lugo rail line northwest of Russi.

GITY- TAXI CONTROL PROPOSAL DETOURED
The route of the proposed taxicab ordinance has hecome a circuitous one. After discussion covering many months that “something should be done about it” the matter of overcharges, short hauls and other alleged abuses by local taxicab drivers now is in the hands of Roy Hickman, city controller. The safety board yesterday voted to refer to Mr. Hickman for study a préposal by Mrs. Maude Hobson, crusading city weights and measures director, that a new city ordinance be drafted. In a letter to the safety board, Mrs. Hobson suggested that drivers be fingerprinted, photographed and required to give a receipt to every fare. Drivers’ pictures should be placed in their cabs, the proposal further suggested. Since Mr. Hickman’s department issues licenses to operate cabs, the safety board felt his views should be a matter of record. The gity controller. said he would comment after he had had a chance to stydy the situation.
Bands of Dogs

ROVING BANDS of dogs that menace livestock and fowl are running wild in the fields’ northwest of Indianapolis, the safety .board was informed yesterday. Need Help in Getting the Old See Any Board
Job Back?
Q—If T need: help to get my old
job back, can I go to the selective service board in the district where the job is, or must I go back to my own board?
A—Because so many servicemen |finding one from the veterans’ job were working away-from home when counsellor at the U.S. employment
called up by their board, there will be no rigid rules on this subject. If your letter of application to the old boss doesn’t get results, the reemployment committee of any se-|V lective service board will start things moving for you. If your job was in a different locale than your home board you won’t have to chase cross-country to find out about it.
