Cary Grant Film Opens

‘None But Lonely Heart' Depressing Story.

A competent cast tells a depressing story of poverty and crime in the film version of Richard Llewellyn’s novel, “None but the Lonely Heart,” which opened yesterday at the Circle. Excellent character sketches are given by Ethel Barrymore, Cary Grant and Barry Fitzgerald, who don Cockney accents. « It's a melodramatic story of Ernie Mott, played by Cary Grant. His dislike of hard work is offset by his power to charm his associates. into giving him his own way. Mott's Mother.

Ethel Barrymore is Mott's mother. She tries hard to support them with a second-hand shop in Lon. don’'s Whitechapel district. When a friend tells Ernie that she is seriously ill, he becomes a model son. But bad companions persuade him into joining them in a raid on a pawnbroker’'s shop. To top it off, he sets out to murder the man whose wife he loves. After further tragic the film ends on a more hopeful note, with Ernle apparently turning over a new leaf.
