Routine Spy Film Opens

Pat O'Brien Stars in 'Secret Command’ at Loew's

Another routine sabotage and Nazi spy story opened yesterday at Loew's, } “Secret Command” is based on a Saturday Evening Post story, “The Sabpteurs.” It casts Pat O’Brien in a familiar rough and réady role. He's a government agent who is put to work in a shipyard to rout out Nazi saboteurs planning

to blow it up. O'Brien starts on the 4 a m. shift and during the first half of the picture his status is rather vague. You're not quite; sure whether he’s working with the Nazis. or against them, It's pretty dark at that time of the morning and much of the scenery and action is lost in the shadows. The film is considerably brightened, however, by Carole Landis, Pat's screen wife, Other leading members of the cast include Chester Morris,” Ruth warrick, Barton MacLane,- Wallace Ford, Carol Nugent and Richard Lyon. Joan Davis is up to her usual slap-stick antics in “Kansas City Kitty,” the co-feature. (By Jean Kersheval))

LADY ASTOR FINDS RIVAL IN REPARTEE

LONDON, Déc, 8 (U, P.).~During a housing debate in commons yesterday, Capt. Edward Charles Cobb said men were just as well qualified to express an opinion on housework as women. “Men have been doing a great deal of housemaiding in this war,” he said. To which American-born Lady Astor replied:

years, We have 500 years.” “I compliment the noble lady,” Cobb answered. “She does not look

her age.”

Johnny Laddie and his company of canine wonders take the spot-

climb an unsupported ladder and balance themselves high in the air. The ladder is topped by Johnny with the star of his dog troupe balanced on his head. Other members of his cunning troop add to the difficulty of his trick by -relaxing lower on the ladder. The other six acts of the show feature music, dancing and comedy. Little Miss Jacqueline Kelly, winner of last week’s amateur contest, gives out with some Hawaijan dancing much better than that presented by older and more experienced masters of the hula hula. Mr. Yerro is a success as host to the show but includes in his act imitations which fall below the quality of previous imitations given before Keith's audiences, The South American dance is represented by Jean Tudell, a native of Indianapolis, and her partner, Julio.
