INDIANA UNIVERSITY'S 1944 football team didn’t win the Big Nine championship, but it did set something like 21 new all-time Indiana football records s + + Following are a few of them:
In beating Fort Knox, 72- 0, the Hoosiers set a new Memorial stadium scoring mark and eXceedéd Indiana's previous opening
game high ‘mark by 19 points. .
. In whipping Nebraska, 54-0,
Indiana took the lead in the sebies for the first time and exceeded’ by 13 points Indiana's largest margin over a Cornhusker team, plus beating the highest previous four-game scoring mark (set by
the 1901 team) by eight points.
The Hoosiers beat Northwestern, 14-7, for the first time in 15 gears and by the end of the season had exceeded the largest previous
season scoring total by 36 points,
plus beating ‘the largest season
net score by 11 points established in 1805,
The Hoosiers’ four conference
victories in one séason was the
first such occurrence since Indiana joined the Western conference
in 1899.
Indiana's conference victories this year were at the expense of
Michigan, Northwestern,
Iowa and Purdue.

BUFFALO, N. Y., Dec. 8 (U, P.). —Baseball's post-war problems came out in the open today with indications that the three double “A” leagues will join in a concerted effort to prevent the maJors from expanding their operations to include the Pacific coast. Both the International league and the American association appeared to be backing the Pacific Coast league in its battle against possible post-war expansion of the majors, Although neither Frank J. Shaughnessy of the International nor George Trautman of the association would reveal their ecircuit'’s stand, Clarence (Pants) Rowland, head of the Pacific Coast league, claimed that his organizdtion's battle to boost the cost of any major league drive to expand present territory was gaining momen mg.
